Yule FAQs

What happens if it rains?

This is a rain or shine event.  There are places to stay dry and you may warm up inside the Mead Hall or inside the Victorian Area.  There will be a tent covering some of the picnic tables and a roof over the patio. The show must go on!

Can we wear a costume?

Yes. It is not required for any guest to wear a costume to our event. However, we encourage our guests to feel excited to wear a costume of their choice. Please keep in mind, our event is family friendly so all costumes should be comfortable to wear in front of guests of all ages. It is a themed event so costumes matching one or more of the themes are encouraged.


Please refrain from attire that have explicit or suggestive images or wording (Including profanity) printed on them. 

Please refrain from attire reflecting any kind of political stance or affiliation.

Is there onsite camping?

No. There is no onsite camping available for the public.  Volunteers, vendors, participants, and event staff may camp onsite.  Please consider volunteering for the event.

Can we bring weapons?

Edged weapons will be peace tied and remain sheathed throughout the event. Wood, foam or other non-edged weapons are allowed but there is no fighting permitted except in the demo areas and only under supervision by event staff or our professional groups. Only LARP weapons will be allowed to be used in the demo areas. These are for demonstrations by our professional groups only. 

If you buy a weapon with a live blade at the event it will need to be peace tied.
Since alcohol will be served at the festival there can be NO open carry firearms

What do I do if I have a medical problem?

We will have trained and certified personnel on staff to provide first aid.  Look on the map for the First Aid icon for the exact location.  Ask someone from the event staff or volunteer if you need assistance.

Will there be food and drink there?

Yes. We will have food vendors on hand selling food and drink.

Can we bring our own food?

We will have food vendors available. But we understand some people have special dietary needs. Guests are welcome to bring their own snacks and water in the gate. But no coolers as we do not have the extra space for picnic lunches.  Please do not share your food with others.  Any food being prepared by our reenactors or staff are not for the public, so please do not touch or ask if you may have any.

Can we bring our own alcohol?

We hold a responsible attitude towards alcohol consumption. Please be aware that outside alcohol will not be allowed to be brought to our event. Absolutely no illegal substances will be tolerated. Our festival will have alcohol vendors and they will be appropriately licensed to vend at our events. IDs will be checked and no one under 21 years of age will be served an alcoholic beverage. Bartenders, servers, event staff, and security reserve the right to cut off anyone suspected of consuming too much alcohol. This is for theirs and others safety. 

Alcohol consumption will not be permitted while walking the event property. Any and all alcohol consumption will be allowed only in the designated area (inside the Meadery, or on the patio area immediately adjacent to the Meadery) that will be blocked off. Alcohol consumption will not be allowed outside of these areas.

Is the event pet friendly?

No pets are allowed. No emotional support animals.  The event will have several things going on and may be crowded which can be disorienting for pets. Pets can often have unpredictable behavior causing a danger to the animal and persons around them. We do not want them, nor the public to be uncomfortable or harmed.

Service animals are allowed. But we reserve the right to ask a dog to leave if the dog is out of control and the handler does not take effective action to control it. Examples of a disturbance include growling, barking, being a threat to other customers and other acts that would be considered unruly behavior in accordance with the ADA guidelines.

Can I leave my children during activities?

No. Children must be accompanied by someone 17 years or older at all times, even in the kids’ classes and areas. One adult may be supervising multiple children. Our staff and volunteers will not be responsible for supervising children. We do not offer childcare services.

Is taking photos alright?

Personal photography on cell phones or non-professional cameras are allowed at our event. Please ask before taking pictures of others and be respectful of our participants  in costume. If for some reason during a show, demo, etc, where photography is not allowed, there will be an announcement before it begins.

If you are a professional photographer you are not allowed to offer paid photo shoots to our patrons unless you are an approved vendor ahead of time. 

Please be advised that SAVGR and our venue reserves the right to use photos taken at our event for promotional materials, advertising, and press releases. By attending our event you are granting your consent for your image to be used for the above purposes.

Is smoking permitted?

Only in designated areas and right by the porta potties.  Please do not smoke or vape in crowded public areas. You must fully put out and properly dispose of any cigarette, cigar, etc. No littering. 

Absolutely no smoking in the woods.

Consumption of THC, including vapes, is not permitted while on event grounds, in accordance with Virginia law.
